Smart Phone Owners Are Active Shoppers

We’ve had lots of information on how important mobile devices are to users and how they have become consumer’s shopping companion.  New research details how important in-store smart phone users can be to your business.

• Over 70% of shoppers who used their smart phone during their most recent shopping trip made a purchase

• “Smart shoppers” are 14% more likely to make a purchase than those who did not use a smart phone

• 60% of “smart shoppers” who did not buy anything eventually returned and made a purchase.  Just 22% of non-smart phone users returned and bought something

• Nearly 40% of “smart shoppers” used a third-party shopping app, 34% used a retailer’s app

“Smart shoppers” are a great target for many businesses.  And the fact that they have a targeting medium with them most of the time gives you great access to them.  Mobile coupons and permission-based SMS campaigns are effective one-to-one messaging platforms to drive customers into your location.  With so many consumers opening emails on their mobile devices before desktops, email is another targeting option.  To create mass mobile reach, investigate content providers and ad networks.
